Chiropractic registration

Our chiropractors are registered to practice with the UK statutory body, the General Chiropractic Council (GCC) which ensures the safety of patients undergoing chiropractic treatment and high standards of practice.

Chiropractors are regulated by law and must work within strict ethical and professional boundaries.

Registered chiropractors are required to maintain ongoing professional training to ensure they are practising in the best interests of their patients through a system of Continuing Professional Development which is overseen by the GCC.

Training and accreditation

Chiropractors form part of a primary healthcare profession that is one of the largest in the world, there are over 160,000 chiropractors in over 85 countries worldwide. We specialise in the treatment of conditions that affect the muscles, bones and joints.

Training is rigorous and is a minimum of 4 years. As well as learning the medical sciences such as anatomy, physiology and biochemistry, chiropractors also concentrate on biomechanics, radiology and general medicine and diagnosis. In parallel to this, a wide range of adjustive (manipulation) techniques for the spine and extremity joints are taught, using both the hands and specialized instrumentation.

We are probably most associated with the “popping” sound that is associated with an adjustment. We are taught a range of over 70 different techniques of manipulation and mobilization, which allows us to tailor an approach which is best suited to each individual patient. Our chiropractors have also been trained in medical acupuncture, sports massage and rehabilitative exercise which allows us to create a treatment programme that suits your needs and is aimed at keeping you moving in the future.

Chiropractic is a package of care that includes a range of different treatment options and many involve specific manipulative techniques to move restricted joints. These techniques are currently recommended by NICE (The National Institute for Clinical Excellence) in combination with exercise as being very effective in the treatment of low back pain.

All chiropractors are required to be registered with the General Chiropractic Council. It is an independent, statutory body established by Parliament to regulate the profession. It ensures the safety of patients undergoing chiropractic treatment by setting the standards of chiropractic education, conduct and practice.
