Neck pain & tension headaches

Neck pain, stiffness, soreness and tension headaches

Neck pain is quite common and shares many of the same causes as back pain.

Neck pain can result from poor posture, desk work, repetitive bending, pulling or pushing and even psychological stress.

The joints in the neck – known as facet joints – can be easily over-stretched or compressed which results in neck pain, stiffness and refer pain into the arms or into the head (headache).

The discs in the neck – the soft pads of tissue between the vertebra – can also be damaged. This damage can result in the disc herniating (also known as a prolapsed or slipped disc) and the pain felt along the pathway of the nerve, producing symptoms such as numbness and tingling down the arm and even into the fingers.

Changes in the mobility of the shoulder joints as well as the shoulder blades and upper back can give rise to tension in the upper back and neck muscles (for example the trapezius muscles) which can lead to neck pain and headaches.

With the use of chiropractic manipulation, mobilisation and rehabilitative exercises we can help improve function, reduce muscle spasms and reduce pain.

Neck pain can be a problem for many people working on computers all day
